PAVING, BRICK WORK AND STONE WORK TO
COMPLETE YOUR GARDEN

Many of our garden designs and patios require some amount of brickwork to create steps or low walls to deal with gardens on split levels, but we often use brickwork and stonework as a design feature.

Some of the applications for brick or stone that we have used include raised beds, seating, garden walls, raised ponds and pergola posts.

Experts in brick & stone work
Our staff is skilled with the use of brick and stone. Appropriate concrete footings are installed and reinforced where necessary. Expansion joints, ties, weep holes, drainage, step dimensions and safety of design are all considered along with the aesthetic finish.

Bricks are often used as an edge or border to define a path or patio and sometimes they are used for the patio surface itself creating a quality traditional effect.

CREATIVE AND INSPIRING PATIOS & PAVING

There are various types of paving available including Slate, Limestone, Granite, Yorkstone and the very popular Indian Sandstone along with a large variety of different concrete products.

The different types of paving all vary in appearance, colour, finish, quality and cost. We can discuss the various attributes of each choice but in general the laying technique and quality remains constant for each type of paving.

The best method for paving your garden
There are many methods for laying paving and not all of them are recommended. At Garden Creations we believe that we have found the best method to ensure maximum quality and longevity.

Excavation and installation of a compacted sub base over a membrane to a depth of between 100-150mm with slabs individually laid on a full mortar bed and pointed with a wet mix of sand and cement. The different styles and patterns of laying different types of paving will all be discussed with you.

Budget paving
If you want a new patio or paved area but need it completed as cheaply as possible there is a range of flat concrete paving which is good quality but cheaper than the rest.

We are also able to lay paving using a thinner sub base or no sub base at all using just a full bed of mortar in order to save costs. We would always recommend the use of a sub base as the correct way to lay all paving but in certain situations you may decide to go for the cheaper option. We are happy to provide technical advice to help you decide.

YORKSTONE FOR USE THROUGHOUT

YOUR GARDEN

Yorkstone is a term for a variety of sandstone, specifically from quarries in Yorkshire that have been worked since medieval times. Yorkstone is a tight grained, carboniferous sedimentary rock. The stone consists of quartz, mica, feldspar, clay and iron oxides.

Known for its hard wearing and durable qualities Yorkstone has been used in a wide array of building, construction and landscaping applications around the world for many years - from paving and patios to garden walls and decorations.

How would you like your Yorkstone?
New Yorkstone is available with a riven or sawn finish and is still a very popular choice for prestigious garden and construction projects. The colour will vary depending on the exact mineral make up from quarry to quarry but is usually an earthy tone from sandy to grey.

Reclaimed Yorkstone with its gently weathered appearance is a much sought after stone with a unique finish that will be the only choice for some projects producing a timeless authentic look working equally well with a period property or as a feature in any garden.

Your local experts in laying Yorkstone
Laying reclaimed Yorkstone is a highly skilled task unlike laying other stone paving. The difficulties arise with the huge variation in thickness, weight and quality of the flagstones but the most difficult aspect comes in the variety of sizes which can be difficult to combine effectively.

At Garden Creations we are experienced in the use of reclaimed Yorkstone using the best laying methods offering the best finish possible.

block paving for driveways

BLOCK PAVING - FOR PERFECT DRIVEWAYS, PATHWAYS AND MORE

Thinking of replacing your old cracked tarmac driveway? When you're tired of your tyres getting shredded, think about getting your new driveway in block paving. Not only is it a popular choice for driveways, but can also be used for garden patios and pathways too.

There are a lot of companies offering block paving and many of them produce a job that looks great, but soon sinks or moves due to poor installation and cutting corners.

What makes our block paving different?

Our block paved driveways and patios are constructed to the highest standards. We always ensure excavation and installation of an adequate and appropriate sub base, edges all laid on concrete, a minimal depth sand bed and the finest cutting and finishing including recessed manhole covers, steps and raised edges.

Appropriate drainage is also very important and new drains are added where necessary to conform to the latest planning laws.
